  • -------------------------------------------------(1 scene)--
  • you wanted to talk?
  • Call your boy off, Clark.
  • What do you mean, Bruce? What boy?
  • SUPERBOY.
  • Tell him to stay away from batgirl.
  • or else.
  • Now hold on a minute, Bruce. Are you saying there's some kind off...
  • ROMANCE going on between KON-EL and...
  • I'm saying that if I catch him sniffing around her again, I'll--
  • Excuse me?
  • I think both superboy and Batgirl are old enough to choose their own friends, don't you?
  • Just tell him, Clark. Tell him what I said.
  • -------------------------------------------------(2 scene)--
  • I don't know what's wrong with you lately, Batgirl. Your concentration's slipping. You're distracted, unfocused. Unreliable...
  • If you've got better things to do than being Batgirl, cass, just say so. No one's forcing you to do this.
  • ...No! I want to. I need to...
  • Just go home and get some sleep.
  • And Cassandra--?
  • No more trips to Kansas.
  • NEXT: SEEDS OF BLOOD
  • -------------------------------------------------(3 scene)--
  • Batgirl never wanted to go on holiday. That was your idea.
  • She hated it.
  • Perhaps in the future we should let Cassandra decide for herself what
  • she wants and what she needs...
  • Now, if you don't mind, I've got work to do...
  • What are you afraid of, Bruce?
  • Ate you afraid that if Cassandra gets a taste of normal life -- School,  a job, falling in love -- the maybe she'll find out what she's been missing...
  • ...and you'll lose her?

Well, Comics are not solid monoliths that you read a single panel, page or issue and take this to your heart forever. Else we would always think Wally West is a womanizer and an entitled jerk to all Leaguers. Heroes change, some for better, some for worse. Writers, artists and editors come and go, and they all have a way to tell a story that we may like it or not. And those stories are going to be remembered by others or not, because, again, these are Comics.

Current Bruce has a nice relationship with Cass, to the point that Cass explicitly tells the reader "I am his daughter because I chose to".

These pages are 21 years old, btw. Lots have changed ever since, especially Batman, who by this time was... *checks notes* ... in the middle of the "Hush" stuff. Yeah, not a-too nice time for Batsy. What I have to explain is, people thought it was a good idea back then. I didn't like it. But as they can ignore it, so can I, it's easier to read this way without all this bad luggage. It's also a relationship issue, not an egregious crime committed by Batsy, as opposite to... Deathstroke.
